Mabe Pearl and Blister Pearl Pendant
Mabe is the Japanese name of the giant winged-pearl oyster which has been traditionally used for producing only half-round pearls, unlike other pearl oysters such as Japanese Akoya pearl oyster or black or silver-lip pearl oysters. In Western markets, people refer to Mabe for all half-round pearls. Mabe’s are created by placing a grain of sand against the shell of the oyster, rather than in the body of the oyster. When enough nacre has built up, the resulting pearl is cut free from the shell, retaining the flat back and offering up it’s rich color. It is also said that Mabe colour is the most beautiful colour among the pearls.
Each mabe is approximately 1/2” in length and width, with two pearls in each formation. The dominant colors are cream and peach, with gold highlights. The pendant is a blister pearl cut as a leaf, with 14K gold accents and dominated by pinks and peach colors.
The necklace is strung with gold glass seed beads, and is accented with a blister pearl pendant, edged in 14K gold. Pendant is approximately 3” in length. Overall length is 24 inches. Can be adjusted after purchase at no extra price.
Clasp and jump rings are 14K gold.
